Mason: 5 Months

It's been 5 months already? That is just crazy to me. Mason is growing up so fast and learning so much and we are having so much fun with him! His smiles are delightful, even at 3am when he won't go back to sleep… anyway, here is what Mason has been up to!

Likes:
- the primary song "I Know That My Savior Loves Me", and the song "The Itsy Bitsy Spider", as discovered by Aunt Jenny coming home from dinner over Thanksgiving break, and proven on the way back to Provo when I sang it for about 45 minutes straight to keep Mason from crying. It mostly worked.
- loves seeing where we are going in the car. Cloudy days are the best because then I don't have to worry about the sun getting in his eyes.
- LOVES the saucer still. He will stay in that thing for up to half an hour at times. He currently tries to eat all the toys on it
- putting things in his mouth. Be it his foot, sock, my pants while I'm changing his diaper, burp cloth, toy, it all goes straight for the mouth. Usually his hands get in the way of whatever is in them though, which is pretty funny.
- sitting on laps at the dining table. While we are eating dinner, he is actively looking around and drooling over the big people food. Sorry buddy, not until you master the baby food first. Which has not been successful yet.
- rolling from back to stomach. As of this morning he can officially go both directions.

Dislikes:
- being stuck on his tummy. He rolls over and will play for a few minutes but when he is done he hasn't really figured out that he can flip back over on his own. We'll get there.
- sitting. We mastered sitting this month but he'd rather stand.
- getting wrapped up in his blanket at nap/bed time. But once he's wrapped and a bottle is in his mouth he relaxes and is usually asleep within a couple minutes.

Other fun facts:
- Mason got his first cold the day after he turned 4 months. That is no fun. Big people can OD on DayQuil when they get a cold, but babies unfortunately don't have that luxury. So we steamed in the bathroom, ran the humidifier, made sure he was bundled up, etc. until it passed.
- Sat up for the first time on November 17th! We took a video. I'm pretty sure I look like a total dork, but I was super amazed that he was sitting up already.
- rolled from back to front on November 29th! He had done front to back a few times (still doesn't have that one down) but that was the first time he had gone the other way. We were at my parents' house in CA, so that was fun that they got to be there for a milestone. Don't worry, Sean's family was there for the sitting up :)
- We had to switch to size 3 diapers, 6 month pants, and 6 month pajamas in the last couple of weeks. We are almost out of the 3 month onesies, I just can't put them away yet, there are so many cute ones!
- We tried rice cereal a couple weeks ago; that didn't go so well. Most everyone else was still eating real food so I think he was distracted. We'll try again this week probably.

Here are some pictures for your enjoyment :)

5 months! Loves doing his shy pull-away face, grabbing his feet, blowing spit bubbles, getting to his tummy, and sitting without support!

And here is the video of him rolling over:

We sure love our little Mason baby!

Thankful Thursday 12/5/2013

Today I am extremely grateful for two things:

- My mother. Today is her birthday and I can't imagine my life without her. She has been a rock throughout my whole life and a wonderful example of how to be a righteous woman and mother. I am so thankful for the example she set and continues to set for me, my siblings, and now her grandchild (soon to be grandchildren!!) I love you Mom!!!

- I am also very thankful for Elder Holland's talk in October's General Conference. I struggled with Post-Partum depression after Mason was born and his talk really hit home for me. I'm thankful for the inspired words of our church leaders, and also that the Spirit can touch our hearts as they are speaking, to the point where it seems that one talk was given specifically for me.

And now to go play with my fussy baby, who I am ignoring to write this in hopes that his daddy will wake up and maybe help me out for a few minutes before he goes to school. Or maybe I should let him sleep a little longer...
