...how I loathe thee. And not just the normal "oh great, it's Monday again", this Monday has been particularly exhausting. They always creep up after a wonderful weekend, am I right? Today, I worked for half an hour before Mason woke up, and then he and I cleaned and started laundry. I was about finished and was going to put Mason down for a nap when Sean asked me to bring him a lunch because they asked if he could stay a couple extra hours at work. Score, more money right? Yeah... Well Mason was already cranky because I kept him up so that he would take a better nap. So he half cried, half played with toys and climbed diaper boxes while I threw a lunch together for Sean.
We got in the car and, surprise surprise, Mason fell asleep 3 seconds in. I figured as much, he had already been up for 2.5 hours. Then I got lost on the way to Sean's work and ended up by my work... seriously? How long have I lived in Provo?? Finally got to Sean's work after driving around and finding a few cute houses for sale... Whoops... not even close to looking at houses to buy, what was I thinking even looking?
We get home and Mason's eyes pop open as soon as I open his car door. Awesome. So much for him finishing his nap. I tried. I even let him cry it out for like 15 minutes. He was done sleeping. But still fussy. So then I sat on the floor and worked while playing with him/trying to feed him. Oh and his lunch that he normally likes? Wasn't having it. Graham crackers it is! And watching the same videos on my phone over and over again because they make him laugh. (He particularly likes the one of him and Eve playing chase, and the one of him and James playing on the stairs.) I finally ate lunch, and then realized that it had been over 2 hours since we had pulled in the driveway. Sweet! Bottle, downstairs in the dark, blanket, bounce for a few minutes, and he finally passed out. Mommy nap time!
Oh wait. I have only worked for 2 hours today. Log back in to finish up my hours for the day. Luckily it is slow so I can pretend I'm doing nothing but checking facebook and instagram and blogs for the next two hours. Maybe I'll work on Sean's CASPA application next, except he'll be home soon to work on it himself. Oh, and keep the water coming, because I feel like I am coming down with a cold. Great.
Monday, June 2, 2014, I am so over you. Tonight I will be at the gym for a couple hours to hopefully make myself feel like I'm not worthless for sitting on the couch all day, even though I have been working...
Sorry I just needed to get that out of my system. I do feel a little better. Especially after typing the part about the gym. Hopefully it's a good movie on tonight.

What a birthday!
I wish that title meant I had an awesome, incredible, amazingly fun birthday. But alas, that is not the case. I've had a cold for the last few days that decided to be extra awful today, I had to work my 4 hours (even though I technically called in sick: my conscience got the better of me). Sean and Jenna are asleep while I work = totally trying to keep the jealousy monster at bay. Oh and I'm turning 28. Only 730 days to the big 3-0...ugh. But as I sit here, I can't help but feel blessed (and stuffy). I have so many wonderful things in my life and I wouldn't trade a rainy, sick, still-have-to-work day for anything. And hey, I'm not pregnant this year, which means my stomach/appetite won't be halted at Red Robin tonight.
Anyway, I thought it would be fun to do 28 random facts about myself. Hopefully I can come up with that many in my delirious state...
1. I have never broken a bone, not even a toe. Nor have I ever had a bad enough sprain to merit crutches.
2. Whenever I run (or play a sport that requires running: basketball, soccer, football) I have to start out really careful because my ankles don't warm up very fast. Not sure why, but it's' been like this since high school.
3. I am a Certified Pharmacy Technician, and although I've never worked as a tech, I keep my certification current.
4. When I started my Pharmacy Tech course, I was planning on moving back to California and working as a tech to put myself through nursing school. I even talked to Samantha (my cousin) about where to live, etc. so I could be in the singles ward she was in. (She was married, but her husband was in the bishopric.)
5. I met Sean halfway through my program. Obviously my plans changed a bit...
6. Speaking of Sean, the first few months I knew him I hated that I had a crush on him because I was "going to move to CA in December". Jenny, how many times did you hear that from me?
7. I danced tap, ballet, and jazz from Kindergarten to second grade, and then did just ballet until 8th grade. I quit because I wanted to play basketball.
8. Disneyland is my all-time favorite place to go on vacation.
9. I started piano lessons when I was six. My mom was my teacher. I now play piano for primary.
10. I started playing the flute in 5th grade. I practiced ALL the time. I was first chair in the county Honor Orchestra in 8th grade.
11. I started learning to play the guitar around age 12 or something. I haven't made it very far. Jenny picked up much quicker than I did. She's great at it.
12. Junior year of high school was very busy. I played volleyball, basketball, and swam, was in 2 different choirs. Busy.
13. When I went to Camp KEEP in 6th grade, my "nature name" was Hemlock Hayley. Now that I think about it, Hedgehog Hayley would have been so cool. Maybe not back then...
14. I've took swim lessons starting at age 5 until I passed all the levels. Swimming is still my favorite part about summer.
15. Sophomore year of high school I found a pair of sunglasses, I think on the bus. I kept them because they looked awesome. (I cleaned them, don't worry.) When we went to Disneyland as a family a few months later, I had hanging on my shirt when we were on Haunted Mansion. I was leaning forward to tap on the buggy in front of us to scare my brother, and they fell onto the track and were lost forever. I probably cried for at least an hour. That was also the first time we went to California Adventure.
16. I prefer chocolate candy to fruity or other kinds of candy. But I don't really like chocolate cake.
17. I used to paint our dog Teddi's nails.
18. In 8th grade, my friend Emily and I wanted to make snickerdoodles, so we did. And then we died the dough blue.
19. Sean actually proposed about 3 weeks after we started officially dating. I didn't want to get teased about how we were engaged so fast that I refused to tell anyone we were actually engaged, and just told them we were planning on getting married. I was also stubborn about going ring shopping, though I'm not sure why. A pretty sparkly to wear on my finger? Why did I wait so long?
20. I used to hate cheesecake, even the smell. I even tried a chocolatey one at a friend's wedding reception. I hated it until I went to NYC to visit my friend Hayley. She took me to the best cheesecake in town and it was history from there... yummy, delicious, cheesecake eating history :)
21. When Carly got engaged, I decided it was time to get healthy and happy with my body. I lost 13 pounds that summer before her wedding. I need to make that decision again and lose the rest of the baby weight. I'm at the same weight now that I was when I made the decision before Carly's wedding.
22. Two months after I started working at Career Step (where I still work today), the then-owner shut down the company for two days and flew everyone to Disneyland. My family met me there and I got a paid day to play with my family. It was great!
23. While I was in NYC, Hayley and I saw Shakespeare in the Park... with Al Pacino. We were literally 30 feet away from him. It was awesome.
24. When I was 4, my parents took me to the ER because I had difficulty breathing. Turns out I'm asthmatic.
25. In elementary school, an optometrist told my parents I needed glasses because I was too far-sighted. How is that a bad thing?
26. Sean and I took two honeymoons; one right after we got married to Moab, and one after the semester ended to Southern California (Sea World, Disneyland, etc.). Best trip ever!
27. When my parents were here for Thanksgiving 2012, my mom saw my prenatal prescriptions on the counter at my house and asked what they were for. I told her my doctor recommended taking prenatals before I got pregnant (which is true). I lied through my teeth, I really was pregnant at the time ;)
28. I love listening to classical music. That's usually all we listen to, even in the car. Mason seems to like it too.

random thoughts
Dear people-I-call-every-day,
Why why WHY do you answer your cell phone at work just to tell me you are at work and can't talk? Are you trying to be just a little bit of a rebel? And the lady who is a TEACHER answering her phone, how many kids' cell phones did you take away this school year, but you answered?? For reals...
Sincerely, Annoyed
Dear Mason,
Thank you thank you thank you for FINALLY figuring out that you are happiest when you sleep through the night! Mom and Dad are very thankful for the 9+ hours you are giving us every night. Now if every nap you took was at least an hour and a half, in addition to your lengthy sleep sessions, that would be pretty much perfect.
Love, your less-sleep-deprived mom
Dear world,
How do I get the gig as the person who's voice you hear when you get someone's voicemail? This is a legitimate question. I could totally be the person that says, "So-and-so is not available, please leave a message."
From, the one who wants the job
Dear Spring,
Hurry please. I miss when strawberries are only $1.50 and taste good, I miss watermelon, and I miss being outside in the heat. I'm also anxious to take Mason to Seven Peaks, so the sooner you get here, the better.
Sincerely, I Hate Winter
Dear self,
You are turning 28 this year. Try not to freak out, okay?
Love, Self
Dear hormones,
It has been 8 months since Mason was born, and you still haven't regulated to the point where my hair will stop falling out and my ligaments will keep my hips in place. Are you going to hit that point soon? Because I won't rock bald and I miss running.
Cordially, almost-bald mamma

Robert Frost "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" - thoughts
I have been so tired lately. Waking up 2-3 times a night to use the bathroom doesn't help, but neither does growing a baby. I posted a status update on Facebook the other day about how tired I was, and my dad quoted a line from this poem:
Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of the easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.
Beautifully written, and I can totally relate to Robert Frost. (And this is big, because I hate poetry and the interpretation thereof.) To me it seems like he is just stopping for a bit to take in what is going on around him. He's gone so far and done so much before, and has so far to go and so much to do after, but he has to take a minute to himself just to absorb the "here and now". That's totally how I feel. About everything. I get so caught up in everything that I have done so far, and everything I have left to do (mostly related to the baby at this point) but I really need to take a few minutes every day and watch the snow fall, figuratively. (I'd cry if I had to watch the snow fall again at this point in the year.) In a couple months, Sean's and my life are going to change forever for the good, bringing this little boy into the world. And then it really will feel like there is miles to go before either of us sleeps, and our baby is like, come on guys I can sleep, why can't you? But for now, I need to remember to enjoy the fun things that are happening. We have a great ward, great friends, wonderful family, and now that the weather is warmer so many fun things to do now. I can still look forward with great anticipation to sleeping without getting kicked in the side multiple times, but how sweet it is that I can feel my baby and know he is growing? Here and now. I have to remember that.

Standing up for what we believe
Sean is in an advanced writing class this semester. Tonight, we brainstormed ideas for a children's magazine article on Jackie Robinson and the impact he had not only on sports, but on civil rights as well. I learned a lot as we read different articles trying to come up with different angles to approach the subject. Yes, he was a kick-ace baseball player (how many MLB players have a career .311 batting average?); yes, by the end of his career he was the second most popular man in America (second to Bing Crosby - man can he croon); yes, he set the stage for other colored athletes to play major league sports (how boring would the NBA be today without any of the colored players?). But, he also used his position and prominence to promote what he believed - that colored people only want the rights they should have, equality in all aspects. He was one of the leading pioneers in the civil rights movement, and that was 20+ years before Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr.
But what got me thinking about all this was how important it is for me to do the same with what I believe. I am in no way in a position of prominence in anything. But that doesn't mean I can't stand up for what I believe, what I know. Jackie fought on and off the field for his beliefs. I can do the same. I can promote on Facebook, on my blog, on Twitter, etc. those things which I know to be true. I can be unafraid of whatever consequences may come by standing up for my church and what we teach. There are many issues where in the past I have shied away for fear of an old friend hating or ridiculing, or people challenging me and I can't accurately respond. But that isn't what this life is about. It is about facing that fear, knowing that there are people behind you, supporting you and sustaining you. We have to tune out the negative and only listen to the postive. That is what makes it possible to get through life. Jackie had coaches and managers (along with family) supporting him his rookie year. We may feel that we do not have anyone on earth that is supporting us, but Heavenly Father is, especially when it is His work we are supporting. My goal is to be better at promoting His work and the things I know to be true. I'm no Jackie, but I can follow his example, and the example of so many others, and stand up for my beliefs.

random thoughts
I have so many random thoughts going through my head that I need to get out. Here we go!
- My mom and brother are coming tomorrow and my mom is going to be here for a whole week! AND my brother is going to be living in Salt Lake for school! I will get to see him way more often. This makes me very happy.
- My dad is sending up one of their camping stoves for me and Sean. Which means we now have everything we need for an extended camping trip if we decided to take one. We are going to be in the Uinta's if anyone needs us next weekend.
- It is freezing in my office building today. Seriously freezing. I have a jacket on and a blanket over my legs and I still can't get warm. Hate that.
- On the plus side, we are getting Cafe Rio at work today, and that makes everything better.
- I have lost all motivation to finish work today. Sucks though because I have a million tasks to do today.
- I also have a lot of cleaning to do before tomorrow. Why do I leave all the hard stuff for the weekend? All I have to do is finish the tub, toilet, bathroom sink, kitchen floor, and do all my laundry... that's not a lot, right?
- Bought my first Christmas present today. Only 10 more Christmas presents and 5 birthday presents to go before the end of the year...
- I'm still trying to catch up on sleep from staying up all night last Friday in Zion's. Curse getting lost (almost) in the Narrows at night. (More on that to come soon.)
- Last night was the first BYU football game of the season. What did we do instead? Watched Jurassic Park at my in-laws. And I don't regret it.
That should suffice. I feel much better. And much sleepier now. Hopefully I won't blow up my Twitter with any more updates. I think 3 in one hour is good enough to last me another few weeks, right? Right.
Until next time...
