For a long time now, Sean and I have been talking about a bunk bed for the boys. We always talked about it for the future, like when he had a job and we had a new place and were more settled. Well, a couple months before Cori was born, we started thinking about how nice it would be to have a bunk bed sooner, how much more space would be available in their bedroom. So we started looking on craigslist and facebook marketplace, but we didn't want a metal one, and the wood ones were still expensive. We missed out on a free on by literally an hour one time! We started looking for bunk bed plans on Pinterest (what would we do without Pinterest??? Literally my entire recipe book would be empty). There were some we liked but couldn't settle on. Then our friend Jeff Toone said, "hey, our boys' bunk bed would be easy to copy, and I have all the stuff to build it!" Sean and Jeff measured out every piece, and we took our measurements to Home Depot and bought all the wood! That was fun, trying to calculate lengths and where to make the cuts, especially with pregnant brain!
The wood sat in their garage the entire building time. We originally hoped it would be done before Cori was born, turns out it wasn't finished until after Henry was born! But it got done. after many dinner nights at the Toone's house! Sean and Jeff cut, sanded, drilled holes, and stained everything! It is so solid and hardly makes any noise when Mason climbs up to the top! Mason and Luke love it!!
February 10: We had to buy the boys snacks to keep them occupied while we found all the wood.
March 24: Cutting and drilling! This made me so excited to see!!
June 2: Stained and beginning assembly! This was one of the best days of my life haha!
Completed and assembled! A couple days later, one of Sean's classmates posted that she was getting rid of a twin mattress, so we jumped on that! We also bought bunk bed boards from DI to go under the mattresses. So fun to see it put together!
