So a couple weeks ago, at Mason's 9 month well check (where we were finally able to see a pediatrician! Hallelujah!), she heard a little heart murmur. She said that around a year, some kids will develop an innocent heart murmur, and that is what she thought it was, but just to be sure, since he was a little young, she referred us to a pediatric cardiologist. We saw him a week ago, and he did an electrocardiogram, and then x-rays, to see what was going on. The electro came back a little off, and the x-rays looked like Mason's heart was enlarged. He wanted to do an echocardiogram to make sure everything was okay, or to pinpoint what was going on.
During the electrocardiogram. He held very still… once he had the bottle in hand.
So on Monday, we woke Mason up early (he sleeps until around 8 usually), and headed to the doctor. He couldn't have anything to eat, so he was pretty hungry. They started the sedation, and within a few minutes he fell asleep in my arms. They hooked everything up and went to work!
Around 740am that morning.
"Hey lady, I see you using that keyboard. Howsabout you give me a turn?"
Hand warmers to warm his hands so they could find a vein for the IV.
You can see his head in the middle left, and the machine taking the video clips of his heart.
It was pretty cool to watch, especially for Sean!
He had to keep down some apple juice before they would let us leave. He had a ton.
Enough that he had diarrhea the rest of the day. Poor kid!
Turns out everything with his heart is great! They didn't find anything wrong with his heart, thank goodness. They are assuming it is his thymus that just hasn't started absorbing back into his body yet, and that is what was making his heart look big. It is probably pushing on things a little which is where the murmur sound came in. I asked, and it could also be why he is still spitting up so much. Yeah, fun. Who knows how long until that goes away… Anyway, we are so grateful that Mason is healthy and strong. Very strong. Like, can push your face in any direction he wants strong.
always scary when stuff like this happens. ethan has an innocent heart issue too-not enough to need anything fixed but enough that I get asked about it sometimes when they listen to his heart. glad everything checked out okay!
